Casa Puente
Casa Puente is a 3-bedroom, 2-bath vacation home that bridges a seasonal creek on a densely wooded site, minimizing ecological impact while embracing natural light, views, and solar orientation. The linear structure—20 feet wide by 90 feet long—is elevated 20 feet above the creek, supported from either bank to preserve the forest floor and allow light to filter through.

Clad in maple plywood panels and corrugated galvalume, the home features an 8-foot cantilevered balcony with recycled plastic grating that lets light pass to the ground below. This deck folds vertically to become storm shutters when not in use. A translucent canopy above and a west-facing glass floor and skylight system further enhance daylighting and transparency.

Sustainable systems include high insulation, fireplaces in every room, photovoltaic panels, and solar water heating. A permeable granite driveway winds through preserved trees, and the septic system is placed with a 50-foot setback from the creek.
Balancing lightness and permanence, Casa Puente offers a restrained, responsive design that seamlessly integrates with its environment.
