Casa Lake Rabun
Nestled along the tranquil edge of Lake Rabun in the North Georgia mountains, Casa Lake Rabun is envisioned as a modern retreat rooted in the spirit of place. This 4-bedroom, 5.5-bath residence redefines lakefront living through a contemporary lens, becoming the first of its kind on this storied body of water.
Lake Rabun—a sinuous, 835-acre reservoir formed by the Tallulah River—offers a rare topography of steep valleys, wooded slopes, and cinematic vistas. Positioned within this natural amphitheater, this design solution seeks to harmonize with the landscape while making a bold architectural statement. The project replaces an existing wood-framed home and reimagines an adjacent boathouse, preserving its relationship to the water while elevating its use.

Conceived as both sanctuary and gathering place, the home responds to the Owner’s desire for communal connection and retreat. The parti organizes programmatic elements across two levels: expansive indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces and a primary suite occupy the upper level, while three secondary bedrooms and a family lounge inhabit the lower terrace—allowing for flexible, energy-efficient use based on occupancy.
Arrival is a carefully choreographed sequence: a steep, winding drive descends into a clearing where a masonry wall shields the lake view, creating a moment of pause. A covered bridge-like entryway then frames the reveal—a dramatic panorama of water and mountain, orchestrated to inspire awe.
Architecturally, the home is expressed through a steel structural frame with broad spans of glass, exposed timber elements, and a palette of natural materials—wood, metal, and local stone—that anchor the structure to its rugged site. This material honesty and contextual sensitivity ground the project while allowing the house to quietly echo the surrounding forest and ridgeline.

More than a residence, Casa at Lake Rabun is a modern interpretation of lakeside architecture—an icon-in-the-making that expands the design vocabulary of the community. It is a place for memory-making, gathering, and solitude, uniquely attuned to the light, water, and mountain air that define this extraordinary setting.
